I picked up this awesome purple pepper at the flea market on Sunday. There is definitely a soft spot in my heart and garden for peppers. I'm going to start some seeds this evening for this year's garden. Since we're trying to sell the house I'm going to try to limit myself 2 only planting in the raised beds and just a few pots. This is going to be difficult however because I really love abundance in the garden . Since we've started eating a high raw food diet the need to grow more fruits and vegetables is at an all time high. I think I will have a patch of sunflowers in the ground .

Baby It's cold outside!
As a transplant Floridian I try not to complain when it gets cold, but it's really cold here in Jacksonvillle. We were ill prepared for this "arctic vortex" or whatever the news is calling it. This time last year we had burned through 2 cords of wood in the wood stove. This year we have barely had to use it at all. We just finished up last year's excess wood in an attempt to 1. save money and 2. clean up our yard and house which we are going to sell in the near future. So last night we burned through the last of it. We're running space heaters today and hopefully getting some wood from some neighbors after Tim comes home from work. After enclosing our living room with blankets and comforters in every doorway and window it has finally climbed up to 60 degrees. Brrrr.
Me neighbor's banana tree had just set fruit about a month ago. I've been watching the small little bananas slowly die all day. Sad face! We had such a warm winter that there are volunteer tomato and pepper plants about 5 inches tall popping up all around the winter veggies- Kohlrabi, spinach, peas, greens, etc. I have moved a few plants into my bedroom to try to save them. One of which is a papaya plant which should be very productive this year if I can pull it through winter.
Our Meyer Lemon tree produced it's first and only lemon this year! We just picked it! It's taller than both of us now so hopefully this coming season it will have a more abundant harvest.
